AXUG Summit 2016 wrapped up last week, after a week of education and networking for more than 2,000 AX users. With the Keynote announcing the release of Microsoft Dynamics 365, there was a lot of buzz around digital transformation and the future of supply chains in the Cloud. Our team spoke with many companies looking to go digital with their warehouse operations as they considered their future with AX. But one of the hottest topics at our Booth throughout the week was regarding a specific component of that plan: which device would they need to achieve their vision?

No, the hardware zombie apocalypse is not coming, but Microsoft will soon reach its end of life for support for the Windows CE and Windows Embedded Handheld. Beginning in 2018 through 2020, Microsoft will phase out their support of various Windows Embedded Operating Systems. And since most rugged devices are currently running these systems today, it’s time to start planning the move to other Operating Systems as you begin to replace your older handhelds.
