Rhino-Rack has been providing Australia’s most diverse range of innovative roof rack products for tradesmen, sports enthusiasts and outdoor devotees since 1992. Their objective was to get their stock under control and their supply chain optimized from within their NetSuite ERP. But during their NetSuite implementation testing phase, Rhino-Rack decided the WMS they originally selected lacked the core
functionality they needed. Their implementation partner reviewed possible alternatives and recommended RF-SMART.
When they decided to move from their previous highly customized barcoding solution to RF-SMART at their Sydney Head Office, Operations Manager Penny Heron knew the transition had to be as smooth as possible.
“RF-SMART ticked all the boxes almost immediately for us,” Penny said. They especially liked that since the RF-SMART solution is built within NetSuite, the transactions can be seen instantaneously. Real-time visibility, along with fewer errors and better stock handling processes caused the Rhino-Rack staff to wholeheartedly embrace the change from their previous solution. Because of RF-SMART’s rapid deployment and simple to understand user interface, the NetSuite implementation went ahead as planned.
Adopting standard RF-SMART functionality such as receiving, order picking, enhanced item inquiry and
bin transfers led Rhino-Rack to quickly increase their inventory control. This has led to greater efficiencies with more orders picked, fewer mistakes and an easier path to dispatch.
“The feedback from the guys on the floor is that it’s definitely improved the way that they do their job,”
Penny said. “To be able to scan and select the PO that we need, put that straight in with the goods and then straight into stock has cut down our time to receive from a day to minutes.”
Rhino-Rack has seen further time savings by moving to daily cycle counts within their warehouse. This quick daily task ensures their inventory levels are accurate, so less energy is spent looking for items and more orders are picked. It has also kept the finance department satisfied, knowing that the best control measures are in place.
The Dispatch Department also improved productivity by implementing standardized box sizes for product, which allows for quick order fulfillment when packing shipping containers. Time and effort are saved by only having to enter the weight of product when all the dimensions are already accounted for. This translates to more accurate orders getting dispatched quicker and an easier manifest for what is
packed into each container for large shipments.
The second part of their initial goal, Rhino-Rack has successfully optimized their supply chain within NetSuite. Using the NetSuite roles attached to the RF-SMART user has allowed Rhino-Rack to more efficiently plan and approve work. For items on back-order, the team can scan goods at receiving and immediately flag them as ready for dispatch if there is an order in NetSuite waiting to be fulfilled.
Rhino-Rack is continuously improving and is looking forward to adopting more of the RF-SMART advanced functionality. “I think we selected well,” Penny said. “We are quite satisfied with RF-SMART, and I know there are even more benefits to be realized from our RF-SMART investment.”
