Oracle SCM customers have two options for inventory receiving. If you do not have a mobile inventory solution, you can receive directly in the Oracle Cloud SCM user interface. Receiving expected shipments in Oracle requires a some familiarity with Oracle SCM and how it operates. Upon navigating to the appropriate module in Oracle SCM, the receiver must first identify the Order, whether that be by the Supplier, Item Number or a Document Number.
The receiver is then asked to select which lines they want to receive. This process can be time consuming for receivers depending on the combination of lines to receive. Some documents can have up to a hundred lines or more!
Once the receiver has selected their lines, next they will input the receipt quantity and the receiving Oracle subinventory and locator if necessary. These are then added to an existing receipt or a new receipt.
Here the receiver can then fill-in essential information that their organization may require and then the receipt is created.
For this to be an efficient process, the receiver must be very familiar with the UI and the required fields in Oracle.
Once the workflow has been setup by an administrator, a receiver is first prompted for the Organization Code. This, and other routinely used fields can have a default value set to save a receiver’s time, especially if they only receive for a single organization. This is followed by a prompt to enter a document number. After the document number, the receiver is prompted to enter the packing slip number.
Now the receiver is presented with the lines to receive. When a receiver selects a line, they will be asked to provide the quantity being received and the unit of measure. This process repeats until a receiver selects the “Done” button at the bottom of the screen when they have received all the lines.
Receivers are also able to automatically create internal deliveries when receiving shipments using the RF-SMART Delivery Confirmation module. If the administrator has turned the create delivery toggle on, the receiver can proceed through to create delivery process.
The above processes works well when receiving a small pallet or just a couple of boxes, but when presented with larger shipments, our development team identified an opportunity to create a new receiving workflow that would improve the receiver’s mobile experience and productivity, and help customers manage higher volumes of inventory receiving more efficiently.
Specifically, through our research, we found that Oracle healthcare customers, inclusive of hospital materials management needed a way to track items after receiving until they reach their final destination. Multi-line receiving offers the ability to create deliveries after they are received. This creates a record in RF-SMART Delivery which serves as a single record of truth and traceability for the delivery.
How Does It Work?
Supply Chain Managers and System Administrators can manage several additional options from Global Settings. Features include blind receiving, creating delivery after receipt, printing preferences and using item transaction defaults. By using Multi- line receiving and delivery in RF-SMART for Oracle, supply chain management teams have visibility of items from dock to destination. Receivers can utilize one system to log, receive and track in one seamless UI. Multi-line receiving for RF-SMART Oracle Cloud SCM will help teams receive better, faster and smarter.
Using Multi-line receiving, receivers that prefer a desktop receiving method will be familiar with the intuitive desktop design when they login to the RF-SMART SmartConsole.
For receivers that work in areas that need to receive for multiple areas at one dock location. Multi-line receiving is able to easily accommodate this need, by offering the ability to receive by a preferred or any organization.
Each receiver can manage their user settings by choosing a preferred Organization Code and document printers. Once the order is ready to receive, the receiver can enter their document number and begin to receive the entire order, or multi-select lines as needed. If preferred shelf locators are commonly used to store items, the values can be defaulted by leveraging Oracle’s transaction default functionality. This creates an efficient, clean and quick way to receive bulk orders.
